A Nigerian lady has captured the attention of social media users after recounting her terrifying near-death experience following a botched Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery in Lagos. According to her, the procedure was carried out by someone who turned out not to be a licensed surgeon but a nurse posing as one.
In a heart-wrenching video posted by @dammiedammie35 on X (formerly Twitter), the woman recounted how what was meant to be a beauty-enhancing procedure almost cost her life. With deep emotion, she described how she spent over ₦7 million trying to fix complications that arose after the surgery.
“You want to get your body done, BBL or liposuction, but do you know you have to make your own research? I got my body done in April and it was the worst mistake of my life. I used over ₦7 million to treat complications, I’m not exaggerating o,” she revealed tearfully.
She went on to explain that she had chosen the clinic based on influencer endorsements, believing that the facility and doctor were reputable. However, her faith in those online promotions turned into regret when the post-surgery complications began just days later.
“Please, don’t go to a hospital because of influencers. Do your due diligence. There are good hospitals in Lagos, but first ask, is your doctor a plastic surgeon? Anything can happen, and they will leave you on the bed,” she advised, urging other women to take their safety seriously.
According to her, she later found out that the person who operated on her was not a doctor but a nurse pretending to be one — a shocking discovery that left her traumatized. The incident has since raised alarm among Nigerians about the growing number of unlicensed individuals performing cosmetic surgeries in the country.
Her story quickly spread online, sparking widespread discussions about the risks of cosmetic surgery in Nigeria. Many social media users expressed sympathy for her ordeal, while others condemned the influence of social media personalities who promote unverified clinics without considering the dangers.
Several commentators also encouraged women to embrace self-love and body positivity rather than endanger their lives in pursuit of unrealistic beauty ideals. Some health experts joined the conversation, warning that even seemingly minor cosmetic procedures can become fatal in unqualified hands.
The incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of proper medical verification, professional oversight, and personal research before undergoing any cosmetic or surgical procedure. Her experience underscores that beauty enhancements gone wrong can have devastating consequences.
