A Nigerian lady has become the talk of social media after a shocking video surfaced showing her neighbour secretly using her cooking gas to prepare a pot of beans, despite claiming she only wanted to make noodles.
The dramatic incident, captured in a viral TikTok clip shared by user @trendsbyscarlet1, unfolded amid the ongoing cooking gas scarcity and price hikes that have left many households struggling to afford refills. The video has since sparked massive outrage and conversation online, as people debate the issue of trust and boundaries between neighbours.
Neighbour Betrays Trust
According to the lady, she had generously allowed her neighbour to use her gas, believing it would only be for a quick meal of noodles. However, to her utter disbelief, she later walked in to find a large pot of beans simmering away on her gas cylinder — a meal that takes far longer and uses significantly more gas.
In the video, the lady can be heard lamenting her neighbour’s actions while recording the pot of beans. She expressed deep frustration over the betrayal, stating that she had made it clear that her gas should not be used for beans due to the high cost and limited supply of gas in the current economy.
She went on to describe the situation as both dishonest and insensitive, noting that it was inconsiderate for anyone to waste another person’s resources, especially when the country is battling rising living costs.
To make matters worse, the neighbour reportedly added two eggs to the beans, an act that further annoyed the lady. “I warned my neighbour not to use my gas to cook beans. The fact that gas is even scarce and expensive currently, she still had the guts to add 2 eggs,” she complained in the video, her tone filled with disbelief and anger.
Social Media Reactions
The video quickly made waves across TikTok and other platforms, with many Nigerians flooding the comments section to share their thoughts. Some sympathized with the lady, describing the neighbour’s behaviour as shameless and disrespectful, while others argued that lending personal items — especially gas cylinders — often leads to such misuse.
A few viewers took a humorous approach, joking about how the “beans betrayal” was one of the most serious forms of neighbourly offense, especially in times of economic hardship. Others urged people to learn from the incident and avoid lending out cooking essentials in the future.
The viral clip has since gathered thousands of views and reactions, turning into one of the most discussed TikTok moments of the week.
