The clarification came through a statement issued on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, who described the reports as “false, mischievous, and politically motivated.”

Olayinka noted that the rumours were the handiwork of individuals and online platforms bent on dragging the Minister into unnecessary political controversies, adding that the story was a “deliberate fabrication” by those attempting to sow division within political circles.

“It is unfortunate that some elements continue to recycle falsehoods for political gain,” Olayinka said. “These individuals are using fake narratives to attract attention and cause distractions, but Wike remains fully focused on his responsibilities as FCT Minister.”

Wike’s unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu

Olayinka stressed that Wike’s loyalty is firmly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and that the former Rivers State Governor has made it clear that his political alignment is not in question. “As far as Wike is concerned, it is President Tinubu till 2031,” Olayinka stated confidently.

He added that Wike is known for being transparent and straightforward in his politics, unlike those who engage in underhanded tactics or backdoor deals. “He does what he says and says what he does. Wike’s political philosophy has always been based on integrity and visible results, not rumours or hidden agendas,” he said.

The aide further criticized those spreading the speculation, calling them “desperate detractors” who are attempting to distort Wike’s loyalty and create confusion within both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). “They underestimate Wike’s political clarity and his commitment to supporting Tinubu’s leadership through the current and next term,” Olayinka remarked.

Clarification on PDP southern meeting

Olayinka also addressed reports claiming that PDP stakeholders held a meeting to endorse Wike’s alleged 2027 presidential bid. He clarified that the only meeting that took place was a regional consultation among southern PDP leaders held on August 20, 2025.

According to him, that meeting was strictly focused on internal party arrangements and discussions ahead of a broader PDP convention in Lagos. “The agenda was never about Wike running for president. It was purely administrative—zoning, coordination, and strengthening the southern bloc ahead of future PDP decisions,” Olayinka explained.

He also highlighted that a formal communiqué was released after the meeting, which was signed by several party stakeholders including state chairmen, National Assembly members, and former governors, none of whom mentioned Wike’s name in connection with a presidential ambition.

Wike’s focus on rebuilding Abuja

Reaffirming Wike’s dedication to his current assignment, Olayinka said the FCT Minister remains focused on advancing President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda”, particularly in transforming Abuja into a model of infrastructure development and governance efficiency.

“Wike is not distracted by political noise. His work speaks for itself — from road expansion projects to housing and sanitation reforms across the FCT. He is committed to delivering visible results that align with the President’s vision for Nigeria’s capital city,” Olayinka said.

He concluded by stating that those hoping to see political tension between Wike and Tinubu would be disappointed. “From now till 2031, Wike stands firmly with President Tinubu. His mission is to build, not to divide; to serve, not to scheme,” he declared.
