The Presidency has officially confirmed the immediate termination of appointment of Fegho John Umunubo, who had been serving as Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Digital and Creative Economy under the Office of the Vice President. The development was made public on Monday through a formal statement released by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye.

According to the statement, Umunubo has been fully disengaged from his role and no longer has any official ties to the administration. The Presidency further stressed that effective immediately, he does not speak, act, or represent the interests of President Tinubu’s government in any form. It also served as a strong caution to both individuals and organisations that any dealings with him henceforth, under the guise of his former title, will be at their own risk.

The warning was directed particularly at stakeholders and players in the digital and creative economy space, both locally and internationally, many of whom may still have ongoing projects or engagements connected to his former office. The Presidency emphasised that there must be no confusion regarding his status as he is no longer authorised to represent or liaise on behalf of the Federal Government.

In the words of Oladunjoye: “Stakeholders and constituents of the digital and creative economy, at home and abroad, as well as the general public are hereby notified that Fegho John Umunubo has been disengaged with immediate effect. Kindly note that he no longer represents this administration in any capacity. Henceforth, anyone who interfaces with him in the name of President Tinubu’s administration does so at his or her own risk.”

This decisive action, though not accompanied by specific details on the reasons behind his dismissal, comes at a time when the Tinubu-led government has been making adjustments in appointments and restructuring certain offices to reflect its current policy directions. It also underscores the Presidency’s intent to avoid misrepresentation and maintain transparency in engagements with stakeholders, especially in sensitive sectors like the digital and creative economy which is seen as vital to Nigeria’s growth.

Observers note that the government’s strong-worded caution suggests a determination to draw a clear line between official representatives and former aides, as the administration continues to navigate pressing national issues. Meanwhile, reactions are expected from industry players and the public as the news of Umunubo’s disengagement continues to circulate widely across media platforms.
