Fresh details have continued to unfold following the arrest of suspected armed robbers allegedly connected to the tragic death of Arise TV anchor, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu. The disturbing confessions made by the suspects have shed more light on the horrifying circumstances surrounding the journalist’s untimely demise.

Recall that GISTREEL earlier reported on September 29, 2025, that armed robbers stormed Somtochukwu’s residence located in the Katampe Extension area of Abuja, during which the talented journalist lost her life in a brutal attack that sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s media community.

In a recent update, security operatives successfully tracked down and apprehended about 12 suspects in connection with the deadly robbery incident. Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement, admitting that they not only carried out the attack but also carted away valuables, including a white Honda CR-V belonging to one of the victims.

During their confessions, the arrested robbers revealed that they each received a share of ₦200,000 from the proceeds of the robbery, an amount that has further infuriated Nigerians who believe a life was taken for so little. The shocking revelation has sparked renewed outrage and calls for justice for the late journalist.

According to a report by Arise TV, the confession reads:

“The suspects also confessed to stealing and driving away a white Honda CR-V belonging to one of the victims and shared ₦200,000 each from the proceeds of the crime.”

The revelation has since caused an uproar on social media, as users poured out their grief, anger, and disbelief over the senseless murder of a young, vibrant journalist who was loved by many for her professionalism and dedication to her craft.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Arise Television journalist, Rufai Oseni, took to social media to share fresh insights into the case, following new reports from investigators handling the incident. Oseni, who has been vocal about the need for justice, expressed heartbreak over the continued wave of insecurity that claimed the life of his colleague.

He revealed that the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) had instructed officers to intensify efforts to dismantle the criminal network behind the robbery and ensure that all those involved face the full weight of the law.

According to the latest update, the ongoing investigation is expected to uncover more individuals linked to the robbery operation, as authorities continue to piece together how the gang planned and executed the deadly attack that left Somtochukwu and a security guard, Mr. Barnabas Danlami, dead in the tragic incident.

As the investigation progresses, Nigerians across various social platforms have continued to demand swift justice, urging the authorities not to let the matter fade away like many other unresolved murder cases in the country.

Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu’s passing remains a painful reminder of the dangers journalists face and the need for improved security measures in the nation’s capital.
