The music star, who is currently in the United States, reportedly spent a total of $1,000 on his meal at the upscale restaurant before leaving a $60 tip for the waitress.

However, the waitress, seemingly displeased with the amount, went on to message Peter privately on Instagram, expressing her disappointment. She criticized him for being “stingy” despite being a celebrity and claimed that his actions were part of the reason many people “dislike” him.

Waitress storms his DM

The lady’s message quickly circulated online after Peter Okoye shared a screenshot of their conversation. In the message, she accused him of being inconsiderate for leaving such a “low tip” given how much he spent on food, adding that celebrities like him should be more generous when visiting restaurants.

She wrote that waiters in the United States depend heavily on tips for survival and that his behavior was embarrassing for someone of his status.

Peter replies…

In response, Peter Okoye expressed disbelief over the message, saying he was shocked that someone could feel entitled to his hard-earned money. He posted the screenshot of the DM on his Instagram story, accompanied by a strong reaction condemning the waitress’s sense of entitlement.

He wrote, “Sometimes eh dis oyibos na them no get sense. Una dey craze for this Yankee I swear. For my own money again?” — making it clear that he found the situation ridiculous.

Peter also hinted that people should learn to respect others’ financial choices instead of feeling entitled to what they did not earn.

Netizens have reacted

The incident has since gone viral on social media, sparking massive reactions from fans and online users. Many Nigerians took to the comment section to side with Peter, arguing that tipping should be voluntary and not forced.

@MaxCrypt_ wrote: “Make dem dey mumu themselves for that place. I go buy food finish, pay for the food… You go do your job that you’re paid to do as the waiter, serve me food. After I go still come give u tip. As how?? Shey na your papa gimme money ni?”

@DonMike_X added: “Waitress wey never tip her mama for house dey vex for Peter Okoye. 😂 People now act entitled to another man’s sweat.”

Others noted that while tipping is customary in the U.S., customers still have the right to decide how much they wish to give, regardless of their status or how much they spent at the restaurant.
