Popular Nigerian comedian and filmmaker, MC Mbakara, and his wife, Lolo Mbakara, have opened up in an emotional video about the heartbreaking journey of their daughter, Eke Mama, who has been battling cerebral palsy for nearly a decade.
The couple revealed that their daughter’s condition has left her bedridden and “asleep” for the past nine years, describing the experience as both spiritually and emotionally draining, yet filled with faith and resilience.

A Difficult Birth That Changed Everything
According to the couple, their daughter’s health challenges began immediately after birth on October 19, 2016. Lolo recounted that during labor at the General Hospital in Calabar, Cross River State, the baby got stuck in the birth canal, leading to oxygen deprivation and a series of complications that drastically affected the newborn’s brain function.
“The baby was stuck. I struggled to push, and there was a delay before she came out. When she finally did, she wasn’t crying. The nurses quickly brought oxygen mixed with water and poured it over her while trying to revive her,” she recalled emotionally.
The couple shared that they were referred to a teaching hospital for further treatment after noticing that their baby was gasping for breath. However, the situation worsened due to administrative delays and lack of immediate medical response.
MC Mbakara recounted, “The most painful part was that they insisted I pay for registration before attending to the baby. We were begging and crying, trying to save our child’s life.”
Despite their efforts, the damage caused by the lack of oxygen left their daughter with a severe case of cerebral palsy, which has since limited her ability to move, speak, or interact like other children.
Years of Faith, Pain, and Unwavering Love
The comedian and his wife revealed that raising a child with cerebral palsy has tested their strength and faith over the years. They described how they have spent countless nights praying, seeking medical and spiritual help, and learning to adapt their lives around their daughter’s needs.
“It’s been nine years of faith and endurance,” MC Mbakara said, holding back tears. “People don’t understand what we go through every day. She can’t talk, she can’t walk, but she’s our angel. Her presence has changed our lives forever.”
He further revealed that caring for their daughter has inspired him to create awareness for parents going through similar challenges, encouraging them not to give up hope. “This is not just our story; it’s a story of many families suffering in silence. We want people to know they’re not alone,” he said.
A Message of Hope to Other Parents
Lolo Mbakara, who has been her daughter’s primary caregiver, urged mothers of children with special needs to stay strong and never feel ashamed. “It’s not easy, but we’ve learned that God gives special children to special parents. There are days I cry, but I remind myself that she’s a blessing, not a burden,” she said.
The couple added that despite financial and emotional struggles, they are grateful for the love and support from family, fans, and followers who continue to pray for Eke Mama’s recovery.
