Taking to her X (formerly Twitter) account, Raye detailed the events that led to her resignation, explaining how she became frustrated after one of the single mothers she was assisting announced that she was pregnant again. According to Raye, the situation seemed contradictory to the purpose of the initiative, which aimed to provide assistance and guidance to women who were already navigating the challenges of single motherhood.

Raye wrote on X, “Two months ago I volunteered with an NGO to cater for single mothers and see how we can foot some bills. Tell me why one of the single mothers said God has blessed her again? Meaning she’s pregnant! How are you a single mother and pregnant? I’ve quit volunteering please!”

Her post quickly went viral, generating hundreds of comments from users who were divided in their reactions. Some social media users expressed support for her perspective, agreeing that many welfare initiatives for single mothers are often abused. Others criticized her for being judgmental, emphasizing that the woman’s personal happiness and the announcement of her pregnancy should not be subjected to public scrutiny.

One user commented, “You can’t wait to want to be socially correct to be a kind person. What she deems a blessing in her experience is not up for your own judgment. Her story could also teach us that perhaps educating and orienting women is more important than supplying them hand-outs.”

Raye responded strongly to the criticism, clarifying that she was simply venting her frustrations and had no patience for online attacks. She stated, “One thing about me is I don’t care what society thinks. I’ve been called rude, stubborn, and all sorts of names. Do you think I give AF? This was me just venting. So many things I’ve done behind closed doors that I never mentioned. I was just frustrated and venting. That aside, you are mentally not okay. Stupid MFs always waiting to criticize me for existing and tweeting like everyone else. You hate that my tweet gets people talking and not yours? Nonsense behavior.”

The incident has further fueled Raye’s controversial reputation, with online users remaining divided over her bluntness. While some admire her fearlessness and candid expression of opinions, others have condemned her harsh tone toward critics, arguing that her statements could have been framed more constructively. The controversy highlights the ongoing debate over accountability, societal expectations, and the fine line between expressing personal frustration and public judgment in the age of social media.

As the conversation continues to trend on X, many netizens have begun sharing their own experiences with NGO initiatives and single motherhood, turning Raye’s tweet into a broader discussion on the efficacy of volunteer programs and the challenges faced by single mothers in contemporary Nigerian society.
